Employbridge is recruiting for a well‑established environmental and engineering services company seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join their team in Charleston, South Carolina. This is a hands‑on leadership role overseeing daily accounting operations while partnering closely with the CFO to support strategic growth, process improvement, and team development.

This direct hire position is ideal for an accounting leader who enjoys developing people, leveraging technology to improve processes, and remaining actively involved in day‑to‑day accounting and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and manage a small team of accounting professionals
  • Foster professional development, accountability, and departmental efficiency
  • Manage staff schedules and coordinate monthly accounting meetings
  • Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Accounting & Financial Oversight

  • Oversee cash management, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
  • Direct preparation and analysis of monthly and annual financial statements
  • Review and approve account reconciliations (bank, credit card, general ledger)
  • Perform complex calculations and reconciliations in support of the CFO
  • Assist with compliance documentation and disbursements

Process Improvement & Technology

  • Identify and implement process improvements using technology and automation
  • Leverage advanced accounting systems and emerging tools (including AI where applicable)
  • Develop and enhance financial reporting tools and analytics to support business decisions

Collaboration & Communication

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the CFO and the Accounting Department
  • Build strong relationships with vendors, customers, and internal stakeholders
  • Prepare financial presentations and analytical reporting for leadership

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration (CPA a plus)
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Proven experience managing accounting teams
  • Strong financial reporting, analysis, and data interpretation skills
  • Advanced proficiency with accounting systems and technology platforms
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment
  • High ethical standards, strong attention to detail, and excellent problem‑solving skills

Preferred Systems Experience

  • ERP systems such as Sage 300 ERP or Deltek Vantagepoint
  • Expense management tools (e.g., Concur)
  • Document management platforms
  • Advanced Excel and Microsoft 365 tools
