Job Title: Production Supervisor
Department: Manufacturing / Operations
Reports To: Production Manager / Plant Manager
Job Summary
The Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily food manufacturing operations to ensure production targets are met safely, efficiently, and in compliance with quality and food safety standards. This role leads production staff, coordinates workflow, enforces Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and drives continuous improvement across assigned production lines or shifts.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations
- Supervise day-to-day production activities to meet safety, quality, cost, and delivery targets
- Monitor production schedules and adjust staffing or workflow as needed
- Ensure efficient use of labor, materials, and equipment
- Troubleshoot production issues and minimize downtime
Food Safety & Quality
- Enforce GMPs, HACCP, sanitation, and food safety policies at all times
- Ensure compliance with FDA/USDA regulations and company quality standards
- Conduct line checks, documentation reviews, and corrective actions
- Support audits and inspections (internal, customer, regulatory)
People Leadership
- Lead, train, and motivate production employees
- Assign work, monitor performance, and provide coaching and feedback
- Enforce company policies, safety rules, and attendance standards
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluations
Safety
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety policies
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective and preventive actions
- Ensure proper use of PPE and safe work practices
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and cost control
- Participate in Lean, 5S, or continuous improvement initiatives
- Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs)
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
- 3–5 years of experience in food manufacturing or production environment
- Previous supervisory or team lead experience preferred
Skills & Knowledge
- Strong understanding of food safety regulations (GMP, HACCP)
- Ability to lead teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Effective communication and organizational skills
- Basic computer skills (ERP systems, Microsoft Office)
