Role Overview
We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Project Estimator / Designer to support our growing material handling integration business. This role is ideal for a professional with a strong background in steel fabrication, material handling systems, and AutoCAD design who thrives in a fast-paced environment where projects move from concept through execution.
The position offers a competitive salary of $100K–$125K (based on experience) along with an excellent benefits package and long-term career growth with a leading material handling systems integrator.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed cost estimates and project proposals covering fabricated steel, purchased components, and installation scopes
- Generate and manage purchase orders for vendors, manufacturers, and subcontractors
- Conduct cost analyses and maintain pricing accuracy throughout the project lifecycle
- Interpret project scope and create complete bills of material (BOMs)
- Coordinate pricing, technical details, and lead times with a wide vendor network
- Maintain organized project documentation and file management in accordance with internal systems
- Collaborate directly with clients during design reviews and scope discussions
- Produce and manage 2D AutoCAD drawings across multiple project scopes
- Support project execution by updating estimates, drawings, and costs as designs evolve
- Develop strong working relationships with vendors, installers, and subcontract partners
Required Experience & Skills
- Background in material handling systems strongly preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in steel fabrication design, estimating, installation, or related construction environments
- Proven ability to read and interpret architectural and construction drawings
- Solid understanding of steel construction and fabrication methods
- 5+ years of AutoCAD or similar CAD software experience
- Strong computer proficiency including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Bluebeam or Adobe tools
- Hands-on mindset with experience in fabrication, construction, or industrial project environments
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to capture and compile detailed technical notes and project documentation
