Compensation: $80,000 – $110,000 (no bonus)

Position Overview
Our client, a long-standing and family-owned organization, is seeking a proactive and hands-on HR Manager to lead human resources initiatives across multiple locations. This role is ideal for an experienced HR Generalist or HR Specialist ready to step into management, or an early-career HR Manager with 2+ years of leadership experience.
The HR Manager will be responsible for driving culture, enhancing training and development programs, and improving employee retention. This position requires someone who enjoys rolling up their sleeves and working directly with people, data, and processes. The ideal candidate is analytical, resourceful, and able to manage HR operations with minimal delegation.
The role is primarily based in Benton Harbor, with travel to Grand Rapids or Kalamazoo one day per week. Mileage is reimbursed at $0.70 per mile.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary HR leader supporting a small, family-oriented organization.
- Lead ongoing initiatives to strengthen workplace culture, improve engagement, and support employee retention.
- Design, implement, and oversee training and development programs for employees at all levels.
- Manage day-to-day HR operations including employee relations, performance management, onboarding/offboarding, and policy administration.
- Utilize ADP and Employee Navigator for payroll, benefits, onboarding, and HRIS administration.
- Conduct data analysis and research to support business decisions, identify trends, and recommend improvements in HR processes.
- Maintain compliance with federal and state employment laws and internal HR policies.
- Work cross-functionally with managers and employees to support organizational growth and development.
- Travel weekly to either the Grand Rapids or Kalamazoo location (mileage reimbursed at 70 cents per mile).
Qualifications
Required
- 6–7 years of HR experience (HR Generalist, HR Specialist, or similar), or
- At least 2 years of HR Manager experience, or
- Less experience considered with a Bachelor’s Degree in HR, Business, or related field.
- Proficiency with ADP and Employee Navigator.
- Strong analytical skills; ability to interpret data, conduct research, and create actionable insights.
- Hands-on, self-driven approach with willingness to manage tasks directly rather than delegate.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships across the organization.
Preferred
- Experience in a small or family-owned company environment.
