Fresh off our Series A raise, we’re poised for accelerated growth, and we’re looking for a seasoned Part-Time CFO to help us steer the company’s financial strategy as we scale.

The Role

As our Part-Time CFO, you’ll be a strategic financial partner to the CEO and executive team. You’ll help architect the financial future of Knapsack, bringing operational rigor, strategic modeling, and investor-ready insights to a fast-paced, product-driven environment. This is an ideal opportunity for a finance leader who thrives in early-stage startups and understands the nuance of SaaS metrics, enterprise sales, and capital efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Financial Leadership:
    Guide financial planning, capital allocation, and scenario modeling to support growth goals and long-term vision.
  • Operational Finance Oversight:
    Manage all budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and KPI tracking. Ensure financial data supports agile decision-making across departments.
  • Investor Relations & Fundraising Support:
    Work closely with the CEO and Board to prepare reporting packages, fundraising materials, and drive ongoing investor communications.
  • SaaS Metrics Management:
    Implement and optimize tracking for key SaaS KPIs like CAC, LTV, net retention, burn multiple, and ARR growth.
  • Compliance & Risk Management:
    Oversee financial compliance, risk management, accounting policies, and controls. Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors as needed.
  • Team Development & Tools:
    Evaluate, onboard, and optimize finance tools and vendors. Mentor finance resources or external consultants when necessary.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in a senior financial role, ideally as a CFO or VP of Finance at a B2B SaaS or enterprise tech company.
  • Experience in early-stage, venture-backed startups, especially through Series A to Series B growth stages.
  • Deep understanding of SaaS business models, enterprise sales cycles, and financial best practices.
  • Track record of supporting board-level reporting, investor relations, and fundraising activities.
  • Strong modeling, forecasting, and analytical skills.
  • CPA, MBA, or equivalent professional credentials preferred.
  • Comfortable working in a hybrid environment with some in-person availability in Portland.

Time Commitment

  • Estimated 10–20 hours/week with flexibility based on key milestones (e.g., board meetings, funding cycles).
  • Estimated 25-35 hours/week during onboarding.
  • Participation in monthly financial reviews, quarterly board meetings, and strategic planning sessions required.
