David Energy is creating a new kind of power company. Traditional Retail Electricity Providers (REPs) are outdated, opaque, and painful for customers to engage with. We use software to monitor our customers’ real-time energy usage, and we aggregate and analyze that data to maximize the value they get from their energy assets – batteries, EVs, HVAC systems and other distributed energy resources (DERs) via participation in energy markets. Our mission is to give energy customers greater transparency and control while creating a cheaper, cleaner, more reliable electricity grid.

We are seeking a skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our team at David Energy.

We’re looking for someone with experience in software development who is passionate about building clean energy solutions. You don’t need to have experience in the energy industry, but you should be excited about making a difference in the world. Teams we’re hiring for

Small Commercial

Builds products that serve our small commercial customers, helping advise them on energy management + operations while acquiring control of their load via DERs. Some examples of things we do:

• Run Demand Management programs via dispatching to smart thermostats

• Analyze customer bills to provide insights on high impact bill issues

• Process device data to advise customers on HVAC system health

Supply Platform

Builds and maintains the software that powers our unique approach to retail. Some examples of things we do:

• Generate prices to offer to prospective customers

• Provide a view into our market position and risk exposure

• Model “what if” analyses across pricing, position, and risk management

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the backend systems of our platform, including APIs, databases, and third-party integrations.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement new features and tools.

• Ensure the security, scalability, and reliability of our systems.

Qualifications

• You have 7+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on backend engineering.

• You have demonstrated excellence in at least one back-end web framework (e.g., Flask, Django, Ruby on Rails, etc), cloud service (e.g. AWS, GCP), and RDBMS (e.g. PostgreSQL)

• You have experience designing systems that scale, building resilient, highly available services, and understand the tradeoffs between building a sophisticated architecture that works forever and a simple architecture that works today.

• You have excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

• You understand the importance of open-mindedness and compassion in cultivating a collaborative environment. You are committed to engaging constructively in brainstorming sessions and exchanging feedback on a wide range of ideas.

• If you have experience with containerization (e.g., Docker), that’s a plus.

Benefits

• Base salary range of $170,000 – $210,000 plus equity, depending on experience
